On 20 January 2026, the Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) signed an MoU with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation to develop multi-sports complexes in Villimale' and Hulhumale' Phase 1 and Pahse 2.
The agreement was signed by MACL's CEO & Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed on behalf of the company, and the Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, Abdullah Raafiu, on behalf of the Government. In their statement, MACL noted that this initiative aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's vision to establish fitness and recreation centres nationwide by 2026.
