During President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Faafu Atoll, Nilandhoo, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been handed the contract for the development of the airport on the island.
The agreement, signed by Finance Minister Moosa Zameer on behalf of the Government and Managing Director of MACL, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, on behalf of the company, will bring the development and operation of an airport on the island into reality.
With MACL contracted to develop the airport in two and a half years, the project will involve land reclamation to develop a 1,500-meter runway. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is set to dredge an additional 300 meters of land to create enough space for a 1,800-meter runway.
