On 17 February 2026, the Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) announced that the domestic operations have been officially transferred to Terminal 2, marking a defining milestone in the continued evolution of Velana International Airport.
His Excellency Vice President Al-Usthaaz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, inaugurated this transition in a ceremony held tonight at Terminal 2.
During the ceremony held to mark the commencement of domestic operations at the new terminal, Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef described the relocation of domestic operations to the more spacious and modern Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport as a significant enhancement in service delivery.
The Vice President noted that, following the recent opening of the new international terminal, the swift completion of the upgraded domestic terminal marks an important milestone in the airport's development. He stated that the improved facility would deliver tangible benefits for both Maldivian citizens and the national economy.
