In a significant stride towards enhancing transportation convenience in the Maldives, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has integrated ferry services within the Greater Male' Area with the Rajje Transport Link (RTL) service. This strategic move aims to streamline the ferry booking process, making it more accessible and efficient for travellers.
As a result of this integration, individuals seeking ferry tickets for travel within key areas such as Villimale', Hulhumale', Thilafushi, and Gulhifalu can now conveniently purchase their tickets through the RTL ticketing app, eliminating the need for in-person transactions. Passengers can make ticket purchases via the RTL app, facilitating payment through QR code paper tickets and contactless debit/credit cards available at ferry terminals.
The transition to online ticketing offers several advantages to passengers, notably reducing wait times at ticket queues. Furthermore, group travellers can benefit from the convenience of purchasing up to 10 tickets in a single transaction, streamlining the process.
It's worth noting that current travel cardholders will be able to utilize their cards until December, after which card top-ups will cease. This change presents an opportunity for travellers to request a refund for any remaining card balance, with the deadline for such requests set at January 31.
MTCC has also announced a thoughtful gesture by offering free travel to specific groups. This includes individuals over the age of 65, children under 3, individuals with special needs, school children in uniform, and college/university students, provided they present their respective identification cards.
This integration of services and the transition to digital ticketing not only streamlines the travel experience for passengers but also showcases the Maldives' commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure for the benefit of its residents and visitors alike.
