As part of an important policy to strengthen the digital infrastructure and modernise government services, the government of the Maldives will set up a national sovereign cloud data centre and provide modern solutions to traffic problems, Minister of Finance and Government Enterprises Hassan Zareer said.
Presenting the 2027 budget to the Parliament, the Minister detailed the main projects planned to advance the country in the field of technology. The minister said he would set up a 'National Sovereign Cloud Data Centre' to securely store and manage state data and introduce a state-of-the-art 'Digital Identification System' or smart card system to facilitate services provided to the people.
Meanwhile, the minister stressed the importance of seeking technological assistance for a permanent solution to congestion and traffic problems in the city, adding that work is underway to set up a 'smart traffic enforcement system' to digitise and manage the city's traffic system using artificial intelligence. In connection with this system, the budget will include the implementation of the Greater Male' Transport Mobility Plan to strengthen the transport system, he said.
With these projects, the Maldives' digital infrastructure will be strengthened, and services delivered to the people will be made more convenient.
