Velana International Airport (VIA) has achieved a new milestone in its cargo operations, closing the month of August with a record-breaking 1,934 tonnes of transhipment cargo. This marks the highest volume of transhipment ever recorded at the airport. The announcement was made on the official X (formerly known as Twitter) page of the airport on 04 September 2025.
The achievement underscores VIA’s growing importance as a hub for cargo movement in the region. Airport officials credited the success to the strong collaboration with partners and stakeholders who continue to support and rely on VIA’s cargo services.
