The Maldives and India holds oficial talks

Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, was accorded a ceremonial welcome to the Maldives on 25 July 2025. This visit carries profound significance as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India.

Following the ceremonial welcome, President Dr Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi held official talks at the President's Office as part of the official visit. 

During the talks, President Dr Muizzu expressed his appreciation for India’s significant contributions to the development of the Maldives. The two leaders also explored avenues to enhance cooperation in areas such as economic development, defence, trade and investments, and climate change.

The official talks concluded with both leaders expressing optimism about further strengthening cooperation in areas including capacity building, healthcare, tourism, and sports.
