The Government of the Maldives strongly condemns the Israeli occupation forces' demolition of buildings belonging to the UNRWA for Palestine refugees

With this, the Maldives' Government stated that the IOF are in contravention of the rulings of the International Court of Justice.

On 21 January 2026, the Government of the Maldives published a statement, strongly condemning the demolitions of buildings belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), located in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of the occupied East Jerusalem. 

In the statement, published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government stated that such actions constitute a clear violation of international law, undermine the work of the United Nations and humanitarian agencies, and further exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation faced by the Palestinian people. With this, the Maldives' Government stated that the IOF are in contravention of the rulings of the International Court of Justice. 

The Government of Maldives reaffirms its unwavering support for UNRWA and its crucial humanitarian role in delivering essential assistance and protection to the Palestinian people.  The Maldives reiterates its call on the international community to fulfil its obligations and take concrete measures to ensure to hold Israel accountable for its continued violations of international law.
