The Maldives is yet again expanding access to international online shopping platforms, as Temu, a popular Chinese e-commerce platform expands its services to the Maldives. Prior to Temu, platforms such as Shein and AliExpress were a big part of the Maldives’ online shopping experience. This expansion is part of Temus plans to expand in the Asian region.

In 2024, Temu started a major campaign to expand their services into Southeast Asian markets, launching the platform in countries like Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia and even Thailand. To make the shopping experience more accessible and convenient, Temy even launched the platform in both English and Bahasa Melayu in countries like Brunei. Although Vietnam and the Maldives are yet to receive the choice for language preferences, with an express delivery option, Temu is set to be one of the top choices for e-commerce platforms even in SEA countries.

In order to make the launch of Temu in the Maldives more successful, the platform has partnered with the Maldives Post Limited, which would allow Temu customers to easily receive their orders through the post. For small orders, customers can opt to collect their orders through PickPost, however, due to the partnership customers can also choose the option for home delivery as well as pick up services.
