One of the biggest issues faced by smaller islands in the Maldives has always been the lack of connectivity when it comes to travelling. Due to the islands in the Maldives being spread out, oftentimes it can be difficult to get from one island to another without a proper mode of transportation. And while the traditional Dhoni has been useful in the past, with the developments over the years, the need for a faster and more reliable form of transportation had become extremely needed.

With this, the introduction of the RTL ferry services by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) brought groundbreaking development as the Maldives witnessed a remarkable transformation in inter-island connectivity. This project, which was announced in 2021 aimed to introduce high-speed ferry services in three phases.

Following the successful completion of phase 1 of the project, MTCC has now announced that the company is successfully launching the services in Gaaf Alif and Gaaf Dhaal Atoll. This initiative, which is a part of the second phase of the "Integrated National Public Ferry Network project," has successfully linked the islands of Zone 5, bringing communities closer together and fostering a newfound sense of unity. With its convenient schedule, comfortable amenities, and commitment to accessibility, RTL ferry services have emerged as a catalyst for socio-economic growth and improved transportation within the Maldives.

To introduce the public to this remarkable service, RTL ferry services will be provided free of charge until Wednesday, July 19. This approach aims to encourage customers to experience the convenience and comfort firsthand while also providing valuable feedback for further service enhancement. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the driving force behind this visionary project, expressed their optimism that this trial period will not only create awareness but also generate valuable insights to refine the quality of service provided.

During the free trial period, interested individuals can reserve their seats by reaching out to their respective island councils. This user-friendly approach ensures easy access to the ferry service and helps islanders become familiar with the scheduling system. However, starting from July 20, customers are required to purchase tickets through the RTL website or the convenient RTL Travel app. This shift in the ticketing process ensures a streamlined experience for all passengers and allows RTL to maintain the high standards of service they have set for themselves.
