The Honourable Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, has concluded his State Visit to the Maldives, undertaken at the invitation of His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
President Dr Muizzu received Prime Minister Anwar upon his arrival at Velana International Airport, followed by a ceremonial welcome at the Republic Square on Tuesday morning.
The two leaders held official talks at the President’s Office, focusing on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, healthcare, tourism, and Islamic affairs, as well as shared positions on key international issues.
During the visit, they witnessed the signing of Memoranda of Understanding on defence and Islamic affairs and announced plans to begin negotiations towards a Preferential Trade Agreement. The two leaders also discussed collaboration in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and tourism, and agreed to streamline consular and visa arrangements.
President Dr Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed hosted a State Luncheon in honour of the Prime Minister.
His Excellency Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Hon. Speaker of the People’s Majlis, and Her Excellency Foreign Minister Iruthidham Adam paid courtesy calls on Prime Minister Anwar during his visit.
Prime Minister Anwar was formally seen off at Velana International Airport by Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.
