On 11 August 2025, during a four-day trip to Baa Atoll, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the B. Kudarikilu Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions today, to discuss the island’s key development needs. The meeting was held at Kudarikilu School.
During the meeting, council members expressed several issues, including the urgency of expediting the water and sewerage project and proposed the acquisition of a nearby uninhabited island for the benefit of residents. They also highlighted the need for a sustainable and effective solution to mitigate coastal erosion. The Council further underscored the importance of completing the ongoing school building project as soon as possible and recommended incorporating a multipurpose hall into the plans. Other concerns raised included difficulties in supplying electricity to remote areas of the island from the powerhouse, as well as the space constraints currently faced by the Council and the health centre.
Following the meeting with the council members, President Dr Muizzu also met with the residents of Kudarikilu, reaffirming his commitment to delivering on the promises made during the presidential election.
Highlighting that one of the community’s main issues is the stalled water and sanitation projects, the President announced that work will resume in August and be completed within a maximum of six months from September.
He stated that road construction in Kudarikilu has been assigned to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) and will commence immediately after the water supply and sewerage works are finished.
The President also addressed plans for education and health improvements, revealing plans for a multi-purpose hall following the completion of stalled school renovations. He also noted that the foundation for a new health centre had been laid, signifying the beginning of upgraded health services on the island. The President confirmed that a contract has been signed for a new mosque, with work to begin as soon as land allocation is finalised.
He added that work required to complete the football field project on the island would be taken up this month, alongside plans to establish a fitness and recreation centre and a handball court.
