Pension Office, in collaboration with the Family Protection Authority (FPA), conducted “Future Foundations”, an interactive session aimed at equipping young adults with practical knowledge and skills to support their personal and financial well-being.
The session was held at Meerumaa on 10 September 2026, bringing together over 19 participants.
The session was designed for young people preparing to enter the workforce or in the early stages of their careers. It explored healthy relationships and financial well-being, providing practical knowledge to support informed choices as participants navigate adulthood and plan for their future.
The first part of the session was conducted by FPA and focused on healthy relationships. It explored healthy communication, personal boundaries, mutual respect, and personal well-being. Participants discussed the importance of building healthy relationships and making informed choices that support their overall well-being.
The second part, Secure Tomorrow: Understanding Personal Finances & Planning Ahead, was conducted by the Pension Office and focused on practical financial knowledge. It covered financial goal setting, budgeting, credit and debt, and saving and investing. Participants were also introduced to investment opportunities in the Maldives and key concepts such as compound returns and the role of saving and investing in achieving different financial goals.
The session also explored preparing for retirement, introducing participants to the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme (MRPS) and a retirement toolkit, while highlighting the importance of starting early and planning for long-term financial security.
Strengthening financial literacy across the Maldives is a key priority for the Pension Office. As part of this commitment, Pension Office designs its outreach programmes to meet the needs of different age groups and life stages, from young people just entering the workforce to those approaching retirement. Sessions like "Future Foundations" reflect the Pension Office's ongoing efforts to encourage informed financial decision-making and promote greater awareness of the importance of planning early for retirement and long-term financial security.
