The Ocean Connect Maldives-India Asia Express (OCM-IAX) submarine cable, a monumental collaboration led by Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio, has ushered in a new era of connectivity for the Maldives. This cable, an integral component of the India-Asia Express (IAX) initiative, has been seamlessly linked to Hulhumalé, effectively integrating the Maldives into one of the largest submarine cable network endeavours.

Under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economic Development, the successful laying and connection of the OCM-IAX cable to the Ocean Connect Maldives' cable landing site is poised to revolutionise internet connectivity throughout the nation. Among the numerous enhancements brought forth by this transformative initiative are the following:

- Internet connectivity at unprecedented gigabyte speeds for government agencies

- Substantial reduction in interconnectivity expenditure between various government entities

- Establishment of a comprehensive and robust communication network that spans the Maldives
