While addressing the residents of Faafu Nilandhoo, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the launch of a nationwide operation, set to commence on 21 September 2025. This operation, according to the President, is being launched to identify and prevent unlicensed businesses in the Maldives; a large number of which are reportedly operated by expatriates.

The focus of this operation is set to be on identifying and shutting down any unlicensed businesses operated by expatriates. Ultimately, this operation will ensure that all economic activities are conducted in accordance with the law, while also repatriating undocumented expatriates.

During the current administration, President Dr Muizzu also noted that a total of 178,982 undocumented expatriates have been identified to date and successfully facilitated the repatriation of more than 8,000 individuals in recent months.
