On 21 September 2025, the Male' Water and Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd. (MWSC) announced the groundbreaking ceremony of the new sewerage system project in Faafu Nilandhoo.
The ceremony, which was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, was officially commenced by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, MP for Nilandhoo Constituency, Hon Fathimath Saudha, F. Nilandhoo Council President Ali Ahmed and MWSC's Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed.
The new sewerage system project in Faafu Nilandhoo is expected to bring significant improvements to the island’s living standards and environmental health. Once completed, the project will modernise wastewater management, ensuring safer sanitation for households and reducing the risk of groundwater contamination.
