On 10 November 2025, the Malé Water and Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd (MWSC) announced the successful completion of the installation, testing, and commissioning of a new 2,500-tonnes-per-day Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant at the MWSC Hulhumalé Operations Centre. The company confirmed that the entire project was carried out by MWSC’s in-house technical team.
MWSC shared the announcement through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, describing the development as a major milestone in the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen water production and supply services in the Greater Malé Region. The new RO plant, with a capacity of 2,500 tonnes per day, is expected to play a significant role in meeting the increasing demand for safe and reliable drinking water, driven by the region’s rapid population growth and urban expansion—particularly in Hulhumalé.
According to MWSC, this achievement reflects the company’s continued commitment to ensuring a sustainable and resilient water supply system for residents and businesses. The addition of the new RO plant will not only enhance production capacity but also support the government’s broader objectives to improve essential utilities and infrastructure across the Greater Malé area.
