On 29 January 2026, the Male' Water and Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd. (MWSC) announced the establishment of two 13,000 CBM water storage tanks in Male’s ground preparation.

In addition to this, the company also noted that piling equipment setup has been completed, and test piling is currently underway in preparation for the main foundation works. Once completed, the two tanks will provide a combined storage capacity of 26,000 cubic meters, further enhancing water security for the growing population of the Greater Male’ region.

The project forms part of MWSC’s broader infrastructure upgrade programme aimed at strengthening long-term water resilience in the capital. Expanded storage capacity allows the utility to maintain a more stable buffer during peak consumption periods, reducing the risk of service interruptions.

As the Greater Malé region continues to experience rapid urban growth and population density increases, investments in large-scale water storage infrastructure remain critical to ensuring a reliable and sustainable potable water supply for households, businesses, and essential public services.
