During His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's official visit to the People's Republic of China, President Dr Muizzu witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation projects between the Maldives and China. The signing ceremony took place at the Wangfujing Hilton Hotel in Beijing on 02 September 2025.
The signing ceremony saw a total of eleven Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements, aimed at further strengthening bilateral collaboration across key sectors, including capacity building, economic development, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
The MoU's signed during the ceremony include:
- MoU on the feasibility study on the demonstration project for the cultivation of economic crops in the Maldives
- MoU on the Maldives training programme on strategic development of technical professionals in the bridge and road maintenance
- Contract agreement for supply & installation of architectural lighting system in SinaMale's bridge
- MoU on the development of a fisheries and maritime logistic hub in Addu, Sothern Maldives
- MoU between Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Republic of Maldives and Hong Dong Fishery Co., Ltd
- MoU between Beijing Huatec Information Technology Co., Ltdc and Maldives National Skills Development Authority
- MoU between Maldives Polytechnic and Shanghai Business School
- Contract agreement of the Fifth Power Development Project Phase 2 (5PDP Phase II)
- MoU on the Atoll New Energy Complex project Phase I-150MW
- MoU between Maldives polytechnic and Shanghai Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry
- MoU on friendly cooperation and academic exchange between Maldives Polytechnic and Nanjing Institute of Tourism and Hospitality
These initiatives highlight the shared commitment of both nations to deepen their longstanding partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation to promote sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
Speaking on the recent meetings held between His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China and President Dr Muizzu, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, noted that the shared commitment to sustainable development and creating new pathways for mutual growth in today's uncertain global economic development has been reinforced between the nations.
President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to China at the invitation of His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
