The Maldives Monetary Authority
(MMA) has awarded 15 scholarships in Islamic finance during the inauguration
ceremony of the MMA Tamweel FinLit Festival, held at the MMA. The event was
officially inaugurated by Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, marking the
start of a nationwide initiative to promote financial literacy and Islamic
finance awareness.
The scholarships, offered in
collaboration with INCEIF University Malaysia, will enable recipients to pursue
an Executive Masters in Islamic Finance (eMIF) — a programme designed to equip
leaders with the skills and vision to drive enterprise and socio-economic
development. Of the total 15 awards, five are fully funded scholarships, while
ten are partially funded, reflecting MMA’s commitment to widening access to
advanced education in the field.
According to the programme’s
description, the Executive Masters in Islamic Finance is tailored for working
professionals and developed by globally recognised scholars in both
conventional and Shariah finance. It is described as an inclusive, multidisciplinary
course that extends beyond Islamic finance to instil values, enhance leadership
skills, and prepare graduates to act as catalysts for positive change in their
organisations and communities.
MMA noted that the scholarships reflect the
institution’s strategic goal of developing skilled professionals who can
contribute to the Maldives’ growing Islamic finance sector
