Manadhoo sewerage project to commence in August, announces President Dr Muizzu

Noting that resolving the issue demanded a complete overhaul of the existing system, the President said this work will be carried out concurrently with the road development project for the island as well.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the commencement of the sewerage project for Manadhoo island this August, aiming to resolve a severe inconvenience that residents have endured for many years. He made the announcement, speaking to the residents of Manadhoo, during his ongoing tour of South Miladhunmadulu Atoll.

Noting that resolving the issue demanded a complete overhaul of the existing system, the President said this work will be carried out concurrently with the road development project for the island as well. These works, he said, are expected to be completed by 2027.

Highlighting the additional efforts being made for the development of Manadhoo, the President gave assurance that necessary works were being carried out to develop the healthcare system. Accordingly, the President confirmed that hospital development, as well as recruitment of specialists were underway. He also noted that, unlike infrastructure projects, healthcare resonates on a personal level, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring holistic and accessible healthcare for all

President Dr Muizzu also noted that the issues hindering the development of the multi-sports complex have been resolved, and confirmed that the project is now set to proceed as planned. He further announced that a separate initiative will see the development of a volleyball court.

Noting that the island has a vibrant educational sector, the President announced administrative efforts to establish a campus of the Islamic University of the Maldives on the island

He also announced the commencement of RTL direct- link ferry services between Manadhoo and Un’goofaaru islands on November.

The President addressed the issue of housing, acknowledging that housing requirements cannot be met within one year. However, he assured that a multi-year strategy, including the construction of housing units and the housing loan scheme, will provide a lasting solution.

At the community meeting, passport services were inaugurated in Manadhoo. The service was inaugurated by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan.
