Maldives sets new Guinness World Record for the most venues performing a simultaneous, choreographed fireworks display

According to a statement given by an official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, this category is a brand-new title which was introduced by Guinness.

The Maldives has set a Guinness World Record for the most venues performing a simultaneous, choreographed fireworks display during the Velana International Airport's new terminal opening ceremony, which was hosted on 26 July 2025.

According to a statement given by an official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, this category is a brand-new title which was introduced by Guinness.

The minimum requirement was set at five venues. I had the help of 32 witnesses, 16 of whom were trained by pyrotechnicians from the Maldivian military. I had a further two witnesses on site to help me collate all of the evidence and make sure the guidelines were met.

The official adjudicator futher revealed the most important guidelines tha Guiness World Record was looking for when it came to the award for this category which include:

  • The display should start and end at the same time across all venues
  • The fireworks displayed must be identical across all venues
  • The fireworks display must last at least five minutes

At the inaugration ceremony of the new terminal, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) reached beyond the minimum target for the new Guiness World Record title by achieving to display idential cireworks that lasted at least five venues that started and ended at the same time at 09 different venues.

At a small ceremony hosted, on behalf of Guiness World Record, the official adjudicator presented the certificate to the chairperson of MACL, Noorain Janah.
