His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence that the Maldives-Saudi Arabia partnership is entering a new and promising chapter, with growing opportunities to expand economic cooperation, investment and development partnerships between the two countries.
The President made the remarks while speaking at the reception commemorating the 96th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held this evening at Niva Kurumba Maldives. Upon arrival, President Dr Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed were received by His Excellency Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives.
Addressing the reception, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, noting that the two countries are connected by shared faith and values, mutual respect and a deep sense of brotherhood. He expressed gratitude for the Kingdom’s generous and continued support for the Maldives throughout its development journey, including its assistance following the 2004 tsunami.
The President also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s transformation under the leadership of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, noting the Kingdom’s achievements in economic diversification, innovation, infrastructure and sustainable development.
Looking ahead, President Dr Muizzu underscored the significant potential for expanding Saudi investment and development partnerships in the Maldives, particularly across tourism, infrastructure, housing, healthcare, fisheries, renewable energy and logistics. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening its investment climate and facilitating greater participation by Saudi businesses and investors in the country’s economic transformation.
The President also highlighted the formalisation of the Charter of the Multinational Maritime Defence as an important milestone in bilateral cooperation. He noted that the Maldives’ participation in Expo 2030 Riyadh would provide further opportunities to strengthen tourism, investment, innovation and people-to-people connections.

Following the President’s remarks, Ambassador Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani presented a commemorative memento to President Dr Muizzu. Videos highlighting the longstanding friendship and partnership between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Kingdom’s development and future outlook, were also screened during the reception.
The reception was held to commemorate the 96th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, celebrated this year under the theme, “Our Pride is in Our Nature”.
