On 15 January 2026, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu established the Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency under the authority granted by Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

The agency has been established in accordance with Section 38(a) of the Maldives Sports Act, which provides for the creation of the Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency. The decision was formally communicated today through Presidential Directive No. 5/2026.

The directive specifies that the agency will be governed by an independent board responsible for implementing anti-doping measures.

The establishment of the Maldives National Anti-Doping Agency follows the ratification of the First Amendment to the Maldives Sports Act on 19 May 2025 and is intended to ensure fair play within the Maldives' sporting sector.

Pursuant to the directive, the number 1138 has been assigned for official correspondence with the agency.
