In a bid to enhance accessibility and convenience, Maldives Immigration has announced that passport services will now be available on Saturdays, in addition to the regular Government working days from Sunday to Thursday. Previously, the office operated only on these days, as Friday and Saturday are considered public holidays in the Maldives. This extension of service hours comes as a welcome relief for citizens who frequently face long queues, especially during peak holiday seasons when many rush to renew their passports for travel plans.

Maldives Immigration often experiences high demand and longer working hours, particularly toward the end of the year during public holidays. The new Saturday service aims to alleviate this strain and provide better accessibility for individuals while reducing the workload during regular office days. Passport services will now be offered at three locations: Velaanaage in Malé, the Umar Zahir Building in Hulhumalé Phase I, and Vinares 2 in Hulhumalé Phase II. Token numbers for Saturday services can be collected between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

This move is expected to significantly improve the overall experience for both citizens and immigration staff. By spreading out service demand across an additional day, it will reduce overcrowding and wait times during weekdays, enabling a smoother process for applicants. For staff, the extended schedule allows for a more manageable workload, improving efficiency and reducing stress, especially during the busy holiday period.
