In a significant step towards fostering inclusivity, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced a new initiative to provide internship opportunities for people with disabilities in the sectors. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create a more accommodating and supportive work culture in the Maldives.

The program was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Ministry of Social and Family Development. The MoU aims to launch an internship program specifically designed to offer people with disabilities a chance to gain valuable work experience in one of the country's fastest-growing industries.

We are dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities through this programme. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience for our interns, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need to succeed.
Lam’aan, a representative from MACL

This program is part of a larger shift in the Maldives towards a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities. Over the years, the country has made significant strides in improving accessibility in public transportation and government buildings. Under the one-year agreement, five individuals with disabilities will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at MACL. This initiative is not only designed to create employment opportunities but also to promote a culture of equality and inclusion within society.

People with disabilities are talented individuals who deserve meaningful inclusion in society. The President has given special attention to this cause, and this programme reflects our commitment to equality and empowerment.
State Minister Athif

As the public becomes more aware of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, there has been a concerted effort to accommodate their needs and ensure they have equal opportunities. The new internship program by MACL is a testament to the progress being made and the ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive society in the Maldives.
