Laboratory services developed in Dhiffushi health centre
Things might be changing for the better for Dhiffushi and everyone who loves to visit the island for family stay-cations as laboratory services have been developed at the health centre in Dhiffushi.
In recent years local islands of the Maldives have become quite the hype among locals and tourists alike. With the development of guest houses and homestays in the Maldivian tourism industry, many islands are finding new forms of development and income for their island economy.
Several local islands have evidently climbed up on the development ladder as new guest houses and high-quality restaurants have started to take off. Some islands are preferred over nearby resorts as you get to see the beauty of the Maldives for a lower price with nearly the same luxury.
However, while almost every sector in the islands seems to be getting some developments, for the longest time the health sector of the islands was stunned in the same stage they have been for years. With the increasingly significant tourism industry, as well as for the betterment of the locals who live on the islands, development in the health sector is increasingly important.
And after so many years of waiting for any form of development, it appears that islands are finally getting a well-deserved upgrade in their health sector.
This lack of development might have been very shocking, especially to those who visited islands located near the capital. While you may expect more development due to their close proximity to the capital city, these islands are also very far behind in the health sector compared to Male’.
This means people from islands such as Dhiffushi in Baa Atoll, still have to spend up to MVR 1,000 on a round trip every time they need to get blood tests or special consultations done. However, things might be changing for the better for Dhiffushi and everyone who loves to visit the island for family stay-cations as laboratory services have been developed at the health centre in Dhiffushi.
With this new development, tests such as the sugar profile, lipid profile, renal profile, liver produce, cardiac profile, electrolyte, bone profile, cytology and complete blood count can now be done in Dhiffushi instead of having to travel to Male’ city.
In addition to these tests, diagnosing common mosquito-borne diseases in the Maldives such as dengue and regular tests for pregnant women will also be available at the new laboratory in Dhiffushi health centre. These are big milestones in the health sector for the island as local citizens of the island can now have access to more health facilities without having to go through the troubles of crossing the ocean for it.
In addition to Dhiffushi getting a new laboratory, 11 local islands are also to get new pharmacies developed, marking a much-needed new era in the health sector of islands.
