Dhaalan clinic reopens after undergoing major developments

While the halfway house clinic was originally established in 2022, with the refurbishment and additional new building, the Government can now put in extra efforts towards resolving the growing drug issue in the Maldives.

Though it is not openly talked about, drug abuse has become one of the biggest problems in the Maldives. While it is not a topic that is openly discussed, it is no secret to anyone who lives in the country that there is a very obvious drug abuse issue that needs to be resolved in the country.

And while this issue keeps worsening by the year, there is little to no help or information that addicts can receive in order to get help. In order to bring a resolution to this issue, on August 13 2023, a Halfway House clinic named ‘Dhaalan’ has been opened in Hulhumale’. This facility has been strategically established to provide rehabilitation and reintegration support to individuals who have battled drug addiction. The clinic's mission goes beyond conventional treatment approaches, focusing on rebuilding lives and enabling a smooth transition back into society.

The major efforts towards the development of the halfway house clinic involved major renovations as well as the development of an additional building in order to house the clinic’s expanded services which also includes a women’s wing. While the halfway house clinic was originally established in 2022, with the refurbishment and additional new building, the Government can now put in extra efforts towards resolving the growing drug issue in the Maldives.

The range of services provided by Dhaalan Clinic is diverse and encompassing. It includes treatment for general diseases, addiction treatment, women’s health care, minor medical procedures, tobacco cessation therapy, as well as awareness programs addressing family planning and childbirth matters. The clinic ensures holistic care by offering both in-patient and out-patient services, as well as pioneering virtual medical consultations, thereby breaking barriers to access quality healthcare.

Collaboration plays a key role in the clinic's efforts to create a lasting impact. Dhaalan Clinic has partnered with esteemed organizations like the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Society for Health Education (SHE) to conduct awareness programs that focus on family planning and childbirth issues.

Moreover, Dhaalan Clinic acknowledges the challenges faced by individuals seeking treatment, especially those who had difficulty accessing centralized care. To address this, the clinic offers not only treatment but also skills training aimed at facilitating successful reintegration into society as well.

The women's special rehabilitation centre within the Halfway House holds the capacity to accommodate 20 patients, providing them with tailored treatment and care. Meanwhile, Halfway House's rehabilitation centre can house up to 58 patients simultaneously, further emphasizing the clinic's dedication to reaching and assisting a significant number of individuals in need.

With its comprehensive range of services, collaborative partnerships, and focus on holistic rehabilitation, Dhaalan Clinic is finally taking a step forward in addressing the growing issues in the Maldives. This initiative marks a significant stride towards a healthier and more resilient society.
