Just one day after the announcement, Bangladesh has now reversed its initial decision to temporarily halt on-arrival visas.
According to the Maldives' Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh decided to suspend the issuance of on-arrival visas to all travellers from 15 January 2026 to 15 February 2026, in connection with the upcoming parliamentary elections of the country. With this, the Foreign Ministry had advised Maldivians planning to travel to Bangladesh to arrange their travel visas via the Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives.
However, on 14 January 2026, the Maldives' Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an updated statement, noting that Bangladesh's Government has now decided to reverse its decision to temporarily suspend the issuance of on-arrival visas. With this update, Maldivians travelling to Bangladesh will continue to get an on-arrival visa, without having to arrange for a visa process via the high commission.
