12 extra ballot boxes are to be placed for the second round of voting

While the first election had 574 ballot boxes placed in all corners of the Maldives, with the addition of these 12 boxes the number of ballot boxes will increase to 586 for the second round.

The Maldives is gearing up for the second round of the Presidential Election which is set to take place on 30th September 2023. Just five days away from the second round of voting, the Elections Commission (EC) has made additional announcements regarding the changes that will be implemented in the second round of voting.

With the increased amount of re-registrations for the second round, the EC has now announced that there will be an additional 12 extra ballot boxes for the next round. These additions include an extra three ballot boxes to be placed in Male’, one additional box each for the citizens of Shviyani and Laamu Atolls residing in the City, one additional box in Villimale’ for the residents living on the island, four additional boxes for locals of other islands residing in Hulhumale’, as well as an additional box in Trivandrum for Maldivians residing in India. 

While the first election had 574 ballot boxes placed in all corners of the Maldives, with the addition of these 12 boxes the number of ballot boxes will increase to 586 for the second round. Though the number of re-registrations for the first round of voting was extremely low, the second round saw the re-registration numbers increase to 50,047 for the second round.
