The Qatar World Cup 2022

With the roads being lit up with big screens and the joyful sounds of cheers during the tournament hours, this 29-day tournament certainly brings an extreme among of joy and happiness to those who love and enjoy this sport.

The one sports event that brings the whole world together has to be the Football or soccer World Cup which is hosted once every four years since the year 1930. The first-ever World cup tournament was played in Uruguay between 13 nations, and since then the popularity of this event picked up over the years resulting in the 2022 world cup which has been inaugurated at Al-Bayt stadium, Qatar on November 20th 2022with teams from 32 nations!

Throughout the years, this tournament has definitely evolved beyond a sports event that football fans enjoy as it has turned into an experience that is shared among friends and families. This is the one sporting event that people who do not enjoy sports on a daily basis enjoy as much as the fans of football themselves as snacks and drinks are prepared among families and friend groups who gather around to support their respective supported teams.

This year, another group of fans were also on board to enjoy the world cup, at least the starting ceremony, as Jung Kook from the famous Korean pop music group BTS performed at this year’s 30-minute long opening ceremony. These ceremonies have become yet another remarkable core memory for many as music and dance performances are specifically curated for the world cup opening ceremony, and they are often extremely catchy and become the one song that people might recognise in any part of the world.

While this was the highlight of the starting ceremony for many BTS and Jung Kook fans, for many around the world, especially Muslims, the highlight of the ceremony was how beautifully Qatar represented Islam as a religion. In addition, the ceremony started off with the recital of the Quran, and barcodes that introduced the teaching of Islam were also left in hotel rooms.

Another highlight that has captured many hearts is the moment when Morgan Freeman sat down with a young entrepreneur Ghanem Al-Moftah as he recited the verses of the Quran and read out the translation.

We were raised to believe that we were scattered on this Earth as nations and tribes, so we could learn from each other and find beauty in our differences” to which Freeman has now famously reacted by saying “I can see it. What unites us here in this moment is so much greater than what divides us”.

With this year’s World Cup starting ceremony standing out so much compared to previous years, one thing that is for certain is that it has yet again brought so many people from all over the world together to sit down and enjoy one sport as a community.

With the roads being lit up with big screens and the joyful sounds of cheers during the tournament hours, this 29-day tournament certainly brings an extreme amount of joy and happiness to those who love and enjoy this sport.

With a few matches already over since the 20th of November, the match played between Argentina and Saudi Arabia has definitely added some heat to this year’s world cup season as Saudi Won 2-1 leaving fans wondering how the rest of the much-awaited competition is going to go down this competition. So, grab your snacks, turn on your TV and don’t miss out on the 2022 World Cup.
