The 2nd International Conference on Islamic Economics 2023 (ICONIE2023), is scheduled to take place from March 8-9,in IUM Hall. The conference theme is “Achieving Adl and Ihsan via Islamic Economics,” with the aim of promoting the importance of Islamic Economics for development based on 'adl' and 'ihsan'.
The conference is jointly organized by the International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (IRCIEF-UIS) and Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Studies (KEMS) of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) in collaboration with the Centre for Islamic Economics, International Islamic University Malaysia (CIE-IIUM), and International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).
The conference will feature important keynote addresses from distinguished speakers such as Professor Dr. Aishath Muneeza (INCIEF University), Professor Dato’ Iqbal Salam, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Azmi Omar (INCEIF University), and Professor Dr. Mohammad Kabir Hassan (University of New Orleans). The presentations will focus on the importance of Islamic Economics in socio-economic based development and explore the function of the sectors in establishing an economy that practices socio-economic justice.
The conference will also include three forums featuring panelists from both the local and international community. The forums are based on the conference theme and are titled “Adl” and “Ihsan” in Islamic Economics, How Islamic Finance Can Help to Reduce Debt and Poverty? and Development of Islamic Social Finance in Malaysia and Maldives. The forums will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful discussions with industry experts and explore the potential of Islamic economics in achieving adl and ihsan.
Parallel paper presentation sessions will also be held during the conference to present significant research papers on the conference theme. The papers cover a range of topics, including estate planning, zakat and sustainable development, natural resources management, and the use of blockchain-based smart contracts in Islamic financial institutions. The presentations will be an opportunity for researchers and academics to share their findings and contribute to the development of Islamic economics.
