Specialised hospital for women and children to be developed

According to the media director of the Health Ministry of the Maldives Shaufa Hussain in an interview given to Mihaaru News, 46,000 acres of land have been allocated from Hulhumale’ Phase 2 in order to develop this up-and-coming new hospital.

The Government of the Maldives has made an announcement, stating that a dedicated hospital for women and children is set to be developed in this administration. Although the healthcare sector of the Maldives has been improving as of late, with dedicated new clinics and improved equipment being brought in, this announcement brings hope for better healthcare for women and kids. 

According to the media director of the Health Ministry of the Maldives Shaufa Hussain in an interview given to Mihaaru News, 46,000 acres of land have been allocated from Hulhumale’ Phase 2 in order to develop this up-and-coming new hospital. She also highlighted that a design is in the works of being devised in order to fit the conditions which would be the most suitable proposal option selected. Revealing further details, regarding the hospital, Shaufa highlighted some of the services which are set to be offered at the specialised hospital.

  • In Virto Fertilization (IVF)
  • Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
  • Special care for women and pregnant women including family planning, healthcare for pregnant women, childbirth services, performing surgeries specialised for women
  • Special care for babies including intensive care for babies, surgeries for babies, and development assessments
  • Care for toddlers including consulting pediatricians, administering vaccines and monitoring growth, managing illnesses contacted during childhood
  • Special care around women’s health and wellbeing including screening for breast and cervical cancer, reproductive health services, and managing menopause.

Although these treatments can be found in different hospitals and clinics across the Maldives, having a specialised hospital for women and children is going to take healthcare up a notch. Not only will this make specialised care for women and kids more accessible, but this will also help get treatment and check-ups without having to wait in queues. The media director of the Health Ministry also further revealed that although there isn’t a set date for the complete development of the hospital, the Government is looking to complete the development of the hospital within this administration.
