IGMH resumes the usage of the online portal

Over one year later, IGMH resumed the usage of the online portal which was closed due to several breaches issues.

On February 2022, local news media made headlines and reported that the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)'s online patient portal was compromised in a way that everyone can access all patient information and inpatient data is leaked.

Following these accusations, the hospital released a statement noting that there was an issue with their online portal. Following this statement, the hospital closed the online portal in order to resolve the issue so that patient information cannot be accessed by the public. For many, the news regarding the data leak was a major problem as IGMH is one of the most commonly visited hospitals in the Maldives and almost all inpatient and walk-in patient data is highly confidential information that no one would want to be leaked.

While many people raised their concerns, not much was done other than IGMH closing the portal in order to fix it.

Over one year later, IGMH resumed the usage of the online portal which was closed due to several breaches issues. In order to resolve the issues, IGMH has ensured that patients can only access their medical data through the e-faas account, meaning no one else other than the e-faas account holder can access their medical records.

Though there might be some who will still second guess before using the online portal due to the data breach, the online portal proves to make things easier for patients as it allows them to check their lab reports as well as their prescriptions online. As IGMH is not only the hospital that people within the capital depend on, but the only hospital that most people from all around the Maldives can afford, access to an online service to see such information is extremely important.
