On 17 February 2026, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) announced that the new MVR20 and MVR100 notes of the 'Ran Dhiha Faheh' series are now in circulation. According to the Authority, this is a new batch of notes, which were circulated in order to meet the new demand in the economy, and to renew the damaged notes received by MMA.
The central bank noted that the notes will be in cicrculation from 17 February, including MVR100 notes received by the authority on 02 February 2026, and the MVR20 notes received on 15 February of this year. MMA reiterated that the main objective of issuing these notes was to facilitate the circulation of cash in the economy.
According to the bank, the new notes were signed by Governor Ahmed Munawwar, and the date on the note is 31 July 2025. The authority also noted that the issuance of new notes is a common practice within the money management system.
Additionally, MMA also noted that the design of the MVR20 notes has been changed significantly, to feature the Dhivehi Rufiyaa symbol on both sides. The Dhivehi Rufiya symbol is included with the face value at the top left of the face of the note and with the face value at the top left of the back of the note. The new edition of the MVR100 note will also feature the Dhivehi Rufiya symbol.
MMA further said that all the MVR20 and MVR100 notes currently in circulation will remain valid and usable currency.
