On 25 October 2026, the Bank of Maldives (BML) announced that the bank had finalised the arrangements to enable Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to receive payments from overseas customers for goods and services through the BML Payment Gateway.
According to the bank, the initiative is being delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade (the Ministry) and the Business Centre Corporation (BCC). It is designed to support MSMEs serving international markets, allowing them to accept payments from foreign customers and receive funds in US dollars.
BML, together with the Ministry and BCC, is working towards launching the service on 1 November 2026.
