During the MMA Research Conference, which was held on 17 November 2025, the authority launched a commemorative book titled 'History of Maldivian Currency'.

Spanning 252 pages, the book has been described as the most comprehensive work ever produced on the Maldivian currency and its evolution throughout the years. The book was authored by a well-known historian, Ahmed Shakir (Kashima Shakir).

The book traces the origins of money in the Maldives, starting all the way back when the Maldives, just like a lot of corners of the world, had a barter system and other traditional forms of exchange.

The book also sheds light on interesting details of the historical transformations of the country's currency, detailing where coins were minted during various periods over the years.

While this is not the first book that MMA has published on Maldivian currency, the History of Maldivian Currency book provides more detailed accounts and updated research on the country's currency and its history.
