As we all know, education has always been a transformative force that empowers individuals, shapes communities, and drives societal progress. It helps not only with personal growth and development but also equips individuals with knowledge, skills and values that are needed to navigate our ever-evolving world.
While the true impact of getting a proper education goes beyond personal enrichment, the accessibility of education remains a challenge for the majority of people globally. Far too often, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds face barriers that hinder their access to quality education. When it comes to the Maldives, these challenges are especially hard on those who live in small islands, making it hard to get access to the quality universities which are based in the Greater Male’ Area.
Though e-learning and accessibility to online education have become more and more prevalent following the pandemic, a majority of the students who come from middle to low-income households often dream of getting grades that are remarkable enough to get them into scholarships that cover the majority, or if they are lucky enough the entirety of their educational costs.
With affordable and accessible prices of education being an important part of developing minds that are ignited, talented and nurtured to achieve their true aspirations, many students who finish their O’Levels and A’Levels in the Maldives have one big dream: getting access to the Presidential scholarship.
While there are several scholarships that cover a portion of a student’s education, the Presidential scholarship is often the big goal that students study towards as this scholarship covers all costs of a student’s education. This means that students who are lucky enough to get the grades fit for this scholarship would not have to worry about the cost of their studies or worry about paying off a student loan or even a stipend following their higher education.
With many students who recently completed their higher-secondary education dreaming of applying for scholarships, the Government has announced that they are officially opening up the slots for the Presidential scholarship for this year!
In an announcement by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Government announced that the Presidential scholarships are open for those students who achieved the highest grade in their higher secondary education.
In order to qualify for the Presidential scholarship, students need to be:
- Maldivian students who completed higher secondary examination last year
- Getting A* in five subjects including Islamd and Dhivehi
- Getting a C grade or above in GCE O’Levels or GCE A’evels
This golden opportunity is now open for students who have been looking forward to this scholarship opportunity this year. Some of the major benefits of applying for a Presidential scholarship are that students can apply to study in any country that is recognised by the Maldives, in the student’s field of choice! This gives students the opportunity to travel to their top pick country of choice and really explore their interests when it comes to their higher education.
