Community development projects are highly significant for the advancement of a community, especially in smaller places like the Maldives islands. These initiatives play a vital role in creating new opportunities for young people to engage in leisure activities and education. Additionally, they encourage the community to come together, collaborate, and work collectively towards common goals.
One such initiative in the Maldives that has been bringing little pockets of happiness to local islands in the Maldives has been the Bank of Maldives (BML) community fund. Through this fund, the national bank has been supporting 20 different community-based projects with a total budget of MVR 50,000 each. This initiative is heavily focused on the development of the community through community gardens, the establishment of community libraries, solar power installation in public areas as well as reinventing public spaces.
So far this year, BML has announced the accomplishment of such other community development projects, and now comes the announcement of the successful completion of an outdoor reading park at Shaviyani Atoll Milandhoo School.
The community development projects are carried out through BML partnering with local NGOs, CBOs and other organisations that work towards the well-being of the community. As such, the development of the outdoor reading park project was carried out in partnership with the Milandhoo Sports Club on the occasion of the school celebrating its 75th anniversary.
Such community projects are a great way to involve community members in activities that can build stronger bonds which in turn can foster a sense of togetherness in these small island communities. This endeavour by BML without a doubt contributes to the overall growth and well-being of the community, making it a more vibrant place to live.
Bank of Maldives recently announced the 10 winning proposals for the first phase of its Community Fund for the year. The Community Fund is a program to empower NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. As of today, the Bank has provided financial assistance for 90 projects across the country through this Fund.
