The Health Protection Agency (HPA) exhorted caution on Monday as the number of COVID-19 cases rose again in the Maldives.

Maldives reported an increment in COVID-19 cases with 142 cases reported last week alone. This is a 69% increase from last week. The number of hospitalized patients is amplifying with positive results, according to a statement released by the agency yesterday.

During last month, 15 people were hospitalized nationwide, but 11 people were hospitalized this month.

Under these circumstances, HPA has recommended that precautions be taken again to eschew a re-spread of Covid.

Precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19:

  1. If symptoms of the disease are found, they should be isolated and tested without further delay
  2. Wearing masks (especially when visiting health facilities and high-risk individuals)
  3. Providing information on isolation and contacts if tested positive
  4. To complete vaccination doses (children between the ages of 12 and 18 years to have consummated two doses of the vaccine and those above the age of 18 have consummated two doses of the vaccine and a booster shot six months after receiving the second dose)

To complete vaccination doses (children between the ages of 12 and 18 years to have undertaken two doses of the vaccine and those above the age of 18 have completed two doses of the vaccine and a booster shot six months after receiving the second dose)

HPA noted that the Covid-19 situation appears to be worsening in some countries and that the Maldives should take precautionary measures to evade the spread as well. Consequently, everyone should be to avert the spread of the disease in the country.

As per the statistics published by HPA, Maldives had a positivity rate of six percent in April. It did not ascend above four percent the whole of May. However, with a sudden surge in cases, the positivity rate is above eight percent now.

After the mask mandate was abstracted, masks are infrequently worn by the public in Male'. There are people who visit the hospital without wearing a mask as well.
