HDC to develop a nursery in Laamu atoll Gan to plan a million trees

The land allocation was arranged at a meeting held between HDC and Laamu Gan Council on 23rd February 2025. During this meeting, a land plot of 100,000 sqft was allocated to HDC.

The Maldives has been moving towards a greener initiative, not only when it comes to its tourism sector but also in day to day life. Aligning with this greater initiative that the country has taken on, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has taken up the initiative to build a nursery in Laamu atoll Gan.

In order to bring this vision to life, HDC has acquired land from the island with the aim to build a nursery that will see around a million trees being planted. The land allocation was arranged at a meeting held between HDC and Laamu Gan Council on 23rd February 2025. During this meeting, a land plot of 100,000 sqft was allocated to HDC. In addition to using this land plot to plant a million trees, HDC will also be using this nursery to grow trees which will be planted in Hulhumale’, Rasmale’, Kudagiri, Thilafushi, and Gulhi Falhu. 

With this project commencing in Laamu atoll, the vision of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to plant five million trees in the Maldives during his term as the President will come closer to being fulfilled. In addition to the nursery, HDC has also been planting trees in the newly built roundabouts in Hulhumale’ as well.
