To ease financial transactions during the Hajj pilgrimage, the Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced an increased debit card limit of USD1,750 for all customers travelling for Hajj in 2025. According to a statement from the bank, pilgrims will also continue to benefit from the standard monthly foreign transaction limit of USD250, offering added convenience for their payments abroad.
In addition to the enhanced debit card limits, Hajj pilgrims can access the USD500 available to all Maldivians at the BML counter in Velana International Airport. This amount can be purchased at the official bank rate.
To streamline the process, the Maldives Hajj Corporation will submit the list of confirmed pilgrims to the bank, after which the debit card limits will be increased accordingly. BML will notify customers via SMS once their card limits have been updated.
Last year, BML allocated a USD1,500 limit for each pilgrim during Ramadan. As a result, 1,300 pilgrims conducted over 9,000 transactions, with the bank facilitating the sale of over USD1 million.
