Making a career in the artistic field can be extremely difficult no matter which country you belong to. While we see singers, songwriters and directors signing labels with big companies and making a name for themselves in the industry, it can be extremely difficult to get that kind of recognition. And it is only harder if you’re trying to get on that level in a small island nation such as the Maldives.

However, one local band has accomplished the dream of any local musician as one of the largest record labels in the world, Warner Music has acquired distribution rights to a song that was created by a Maldivian local band, The Kabans.

In addition to acquiring the distribution rights to the Manta Air theme song ‘Wind Walker’, Warner Music will also be distributing the band’s first studio album that they are currently working on.

With this, the Maldivian music industry has definitely reached a new milestone when it comes to being recognised both locally and internationally as this field is often overlooked in the Maldives itself. While this is a great accomplishment for The Kabans, this is also a major accomplishment and motivation for all local bands in the Maldives as we can finally see that hard work and dedication can get you places, even if you are from a small country such as the Maldives!

"This is an opportunity of a lifetime! We couldn’t be more excited about this! It’s been a long journey to get here, but we know that this is only the beginning. We are looking forward to taking our music to the next level and making the world our audience. A special thanks goes out to Manta Air and Pulse Hotels for believing in us and opening this fantastic opportunity for us,"  Ahmed “Kokko” Arshad, Band member.
