The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has launched “Crafted by Currency: Shredded Notes Reimagined”, a souvenir design and artwork competition aimed at transforming shredded unfit polymer banknotes into creative and meaningful works.

Organised as part of MMA’s sustainability and recycling initiatives, the competitions seek to give discarded banknote materials a new purpose through art, design, and innovation.

The initiative consists of two categories: the Souvenir Design & Production Competition and the Artwork Competition. The souvenir competition invites participants to propose items that can be reproduced as official souvenirs and courtesy gifts using shredded banknotes, while the artwork competition focuses on distinctive artistic creations where shredded notes form the primary component.

All shortlisted prototypes and artworks will be exhibited at the Financial Expo 2026 organized by MMA.

The competitions are open to Maldivian individuals, teams, artisans, designers, and businesses. Participants may enter either one competition or both categories.

For the Souvenir Design & Production Competition, winners will receive cash prizes of MVR10,000 for first place, MVR5,000 for second place, and MVR3,000 for third place. Winners may also be offered opportunities to produce souvenir items for MMA under separate contractual arrangements.

For the Artwork Competition, winners will receive cash prizes of MVR15,000 for first place, MVR10,000 for second place, and MVR5,000 for third place.

Interested participants are required to submit their proposals and completed application forms to [email protected] by 11:59 PM on 14 May 2026.
