The Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS), launched today, will provide a single view of tourist information and connect it with state financial institutions, Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Hassan Zareer said.

The minister was speaking at the launch of the system by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). MGIS is a centralised system that connects tourist information to the Maldives' government financial institutions.

Tourism is the main industry of the economy, and information in this sector is used by many government and state agencies. The system will greatly facilitate the work of the relevant state institutions that maintain this information, he said.

The minister said the introduction of the system is part of the President's initiative to strengthen the administration of the state with the help of modern technology. It is an important goal achieved under the digital vision of the Maldives. In addition, the Minister said that MGIS is a major step forward in achieving the goal of automating reporting included in the Digital Transformation Roadmap of MIRA. The Minister urged the MIRA to remain as an institution working to establish an effortless tax system and said that MIRA should be at the forefront of digitalisation.

The Minister noted that the system will bring huge benefits to the tourism industry, especially for guesthouses and businesses that do not have their own property management system.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Immigration, Commissioner of Police (Retd) Ahmed Faseeh, for his full cooperation in setting up such a comprehensive system in a short span of time. The Minister also praised the professional and sincere work done by the MIRA employees in designing and establishing the network.
