President Dr Muizzu pays courtesy call on President of Singapore
According to the President's Office, during the courtesy call the two leaders reflected on the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore.
During the state visit made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the Republic of Singapore during the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between the two nations, President Dr Muizzu has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore.
According to the President's Office, during the courtesy call the two leaders reflected on the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore. The Maldives and Singapore first established diplomatic ties on 20 February 1975, fostering a relationship that has continued to grow in strength and significance.
Over the decades, Singapore has been a key development partner for the Maldives, contributing to its progress in various sectors, including tourism, trade, infrastructure, and education. Singaporean expertise has played a pivotal role in shaping the Maldivian hospitality industry, with leading Singapore-based architects, designers, and construction firms helping to create some of the world’s most iconic luxury resorts.

With the latest visit, the two leaders affirmed their commitment to further strengthen the bilaterial cooperations between the nations. During the visit, the leaders also highlighted the enduring people-to-people ties and discussed avenues to revitalize mutually beneficial initiatives in areas such as training and education, sustainable energy production from renewable sources, and infrastructure development.
Additional discussions also touched on enhancing the fisheries sector in the Maldives, and pursuing efforts to diversify the economy beyond traditional tourism.
President Dr Muizzu and President Shanmugaratnam also jointly unveiled commemorative stamp designs marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore.
