Monsoon nears Maldives as meteorology office warns of squally showers and strengthening winds across atolls

On 7 May 2026, the Maldives Meteorology Office announced that a low-level circulation had developed over the southeast of the Maldives under its influence; average winds have strengthened over the area.

The office further noted that a low-pressure are also perisists over northeast of Maldives and conditions becoming favourable for the onset of southwest monsoon over the Maldives. Hence, the office noticed that squally showers are very likely to be experienced in the next five days, particularly over southern and centra atolls.

Therefore, all, particularly mariners are adviced to be updated with weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
