Maldives is set to have yet another successful end of the year with the country expected to reach its target for more than two million tourist arrivals. Although the tourism industry has seen some fluctuations this year, with the arrival rates dropping lower than in previous years during some months, the Tourism Ministry statistics show that as of December 11, a total of 1,899,884 tourists have arrived in the country.

These numbers are expected to boost even further, reaching over two million by the end of the year as the Maldives always expects a higher number of arrivals in the month of December as well as January. This rise in arrival is due to travellers who are seeking to spend their holidays or festive season in the tropical weather that the Maldives offers compared to the cold weather that is experienced in parts of the world during these months. The ministry's data further shows that the Maldives has been receiving an average of over 5,000 tourists per day in December - further proving that December’s occupancy is expected to be high for the festive season.

With just 12 days till the end of 2024, the Maldives only need an additional 100,116 arrivals in order to reach its target, which is expected if the currency trend continues.
