MMPRC participates in the MATKA Nordic Travel Fair

With the Nordic market contributing with 30,493 visitors as of 2022, the results of this fair might show an increase in Nordic travellers to the Maldives this year.

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is participating in the MATKA Nordic Travel Fair 2023, held in Helsinki, Finland from January 19-22.

As the largest travel fair held in Nothern Europe, bringing together over 1000 travel organisers, destinations and tourism organisations from over 80 countries, the MATKA Nordic Travel fair creates a great opportunity for MMPRC to find new markets for the year 2023.

Since the pandemic,, the Maldives has seen a change in its visitor arrivals, which was led by Chinese visitors prior to COVID-19. However following the pandemic the Maldives saw rise in tourists from the Russian, Indian and Italian markets, and partaking in such fairs may bring yet another interesting change in the arrivals in 2023.

In this fair, MMPRC is showcasing the unique beauty that the Maldivian islands have to offer. In addition to showcasing the famous natural beauty of the Maldives, throughout this fair MMPRC is also hosting B2B meetings with industry partners and other participants in order to create a bigger interest towards the Maldives in the Nordic market. Such fairs also prove to be a great way to gain insight into different markets and industry patterns as it provides an opportunity to host meetings and exchange information with other industry professionals.

With over 68,000 visitors expected to arrive at this fair, many participants will finally get a chance to experience the beauty and luxury that the Maldives has to offer, and with the Nordic market contributing with 30,493 visitors as of 2022, the results of this fair might show an increase in Nordic travellers to the Maldives this year.

This is not the first time MMPRC is targeting the Nordic market. Throughout 2022, the company conducted several campaigns aimed towards this market and plans to continue working with airlines, tour operators and other travel vendors. 

MMPRC has been putting in extra effort to strengthen the Maldivian tourism industry following the COVID-19 pandemic, and the numbers of visitors are showing the results as Maldives’ tourism industry celebrated an extremely successful year in 2022 and is expected to do well this year.

As per information published by MMPRC, they conducted over 90 marketing campaigns, attended 42 Fairs, hosted 06 Roadshows, 10 Virtual Events, 18 familiarisation trips, and 10 other events were executed worldwide in 2022. The total number of marketing activities for the year was 176 with a total reach of over 8,799,249,501.

Maldives secured the title of the ‘World’s Leading Destination’ for the third year in a row in 2022 at World Travel Awards. MMPRC was also awarded the prestigious title of 'World's Leading Tourist Board' for the first time in our nation's history.
