The national carrier, Maldivian, has announced a new direct route between Hanimaadhoo and Bangalore, set to commence on 15 May 2025. Bangalore is one of the three destinations in India that Maldivians currently fly to, along with Trivandrum and Cochin, which are both popular destinations for Maldivians seeking medical treatment. The new route will provide a more convenient and direct connection for residents of the northern atolls, allowing them to access essential services in India without the need to travel to the capital city, Malé.
Maldivian introduced this new direct route with return fares for locals starting at USD299, making the flight between Hanimaadhoo and Bangalore affordable for residents of Hanimaadhoo and nearby islands. In addition to lower costs, the direct route also ensures shorter travel time, as residents of northern atolls would no longer be required to travel to the capital city of Male’ to access flights to Bangalore.
Announcing the new route, Maldivian also stated that the launch of the new route is especially relevant for families, students, and patients who are based in the northern islands of the Maldives. They previously faced several challenges when it came to flying to Bangalore. With the direct route, travelers can spend half the amount to access the city of Bangalore, as no additional trips are required to access the destination.
Tickets for the new Hanimaadhoo-Bangalore service are now available through Maldivian’s official website, mobile application, and approved ticketing agents.
